Mar 29, 2025
Nyinase Catholic B D/A Basic School
Central Region, Ghana
Introduction
Open-Minds Book Club continues to champion the transformative power of reading through its literacy outreach programs across Ghana. On March 29, 2025, the Club extended its efforts to the Central Region, reaching three schools—Nkohunuhu D/A Basic School, Abodom D/A Basic School, and Nyinase Catholic B D/A Basic School—with a vibrant literacy engagement hosted at Nyinase.
This initiative, rooted in the belief that access to books and reading support can unlock a child’s potential, focused on encouraging a culture of reading and providing much-needed educational resources to underserved schools.
Event Summary
The event brought together 540 students, including those transported from Nkohunuhu and Abodom to join their peers at Nyinase Catholic B D/A Basic School. Their enthusiasm and anticipation created an inspiring atmosphere that underscored the urgent need for consistent literacy support in rural schools.
The outreach featured interactive reading sessions led by Open-Minds volunteers, designed to stimulate curiosity, comprehension, and a lasting appreciation for books. In addition, a significant volume of textbooks, exercise books, and stationery was donated to all three schools to aid both teaching and learning.
A major highlight of the day was the launch of a mobile library initiative, a new co-curricular effort designed to deliver periodic reading sessions and book lending services to the participating schools. This initiative will help ensure sustained reading engagement long after the outreach.
Support and Partnerships
The success of this outreach was made possible through the generous support of donors and partners who share in the Club’s mission. The event was coordinated in collaboration with an officer from OFI (Opportunity for Impact), who initiated the invitation and facilitated planning. Several OFI representatives also supported the activities on the ground.
The event was graced by several community stakeholders, including:
Representatives of the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs)
A delegate from the Chief’s Palace
The Community Development Officer for the area
Headmasters and teachers from all three schools
Their presence and active participation highlighted the collective commitment to enhancing education in the region.
Conclusion
The outreach to the Central Region marked another milestone in Open-Minds Book Club’s journey to empower the next generation through literacy. The heartfelt smiles, eagerness to learn, and engagement of the students serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of books and community support.
Open-Minds Book Club remains steadfast in its vision to make books accessible, inspire young readers, and build a future where every child can read, dream, and achieve. With continued collaboration and support, the Club looks forward to expanding its reach across Ghana and beyond.
