Open Minds Book Club continues its mission to foster a lifelong love for reading with its fourth successful outreach, held at Kpatcheremidor D/A Basic School on September 21, 2024. This literacy-focused initiative brought together volunteers, educators, and students for a day of inspiration, learning, and joy.

The outreach began with a warm welcome from the school’s administration, followed by a meeting with teachers, during which stationery items were donated to support classroom learning. Volunteers took the opportunity to discuss how regular reading can significantly enhance students’ comprehension and vocabulary development.

The heart of the event focused on engaging over 150 students in interactive reading sessions. Volunteers read to the children, led discussions on the value of books, and encouraged the habit of occasional reading as a tool to strengthen vocabulary and develop lifelong skills. The joy and curiosity in the students’ eyes reflected their eagerness to explore the world through stories.

A significant highlight of the visit was the donation of 250 textbooks and storybooks, provided through the generosity of Open Minds Book Club volunteers and benevolent donors. These books were distributed among the students and also added to the school’s library collection, ensuring lasting access to educational resources.

In addition to books and stationery, snacks were shared with the children, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere that made the day even more special. Volunteers left the students with words of encouragement, reminding them that reading can open doors to imagination, knowledge, and endless possibilities.

The staff and students of Kpatcheremidor D/A Basic School expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit. Teachers noted that the materials and motivation provided would go a long way in enriching the students’ learning journey.

Open Minds Book Club remains committed to promoting literacy and educational equity, one school and one book at a time. The success of this outreach underscores the power of community and the transformative impact of reading.
