Introduction

On November 29, 2023, Open Minds Book Club launched its maiden book donation drive at Asadame A.M.E. Zion Basic School in Asadame-Abor, located in the Volta Region. The event marked the beginning of the Club’s outreach efforts in the region and brought together students, teachers, and community elders for a vibrant day of learning, fun, and cultural engagement.

Activities and Engagement

The outreach welcomed over 200 students, along with teachers and village elders, who gathered to witness and participate in the Club’s first-ever donation initiative in the area. The program began with an exciting introduction to Open Minds Book Club, delivered in the local dialect to ensure everyone felt included and connected to the Club’s mission.

Following the opening, students were divided into smaller groups for reading sessions and vocabulary-based comprehension tests. This interactive format allowed learners to not only enjoy storytelling but also demonstrate their understanding and language skills. Those who excelled in the activities were awarded prizes, further encouraging academic excellence and participation.

The day was filled with lively activities, including singing, games, and the sharing of snacks, all of which helped boost students’ morale and created an uplifting atmosphere that made learning both fun and memorable.

Book and Stationery Donations

The heart of the outreach was the donation of 200 textbooks and storybooks, along with essential stationery supplies for the school’s use and library development. These resources are expected to significantly enhance teaching and learning at Asadame A.M.E. Zion Basic School, where access to books has been limited.

Open Minds Book Club also made a firm promise to return with additional books and support, committing to building a lasting partnership with the school and its community.

Conclusion

The maiden donation drive at Asadame A.M.E. Zion Basic School was a resounding success, setting the tone for future literacy programs in the Volta Region. The event not only provided educational materials but also ignited a spirit of curiosity and excitement among the students.

Open Minds Book Club remains committed to nurturing a love for reading and ensuring that no child is left behind in the journey toward literacy and personal growth. The Club looks forward to returning to Asadame-Abor with even more resources and continued support for the school’s development.
